Enlightenment Part 2

Shine the light Last week I shared about the process of illumination and revelation, what the Bible calls "enlightenment" that happens between the time someone first hears about Jesus, and the time that person makes the decision for Christ. In the Greek enlightenment means to 'shine a light' and describes the process that happens internally when 'the light starts to go on' concerning Jesus. read More...

Enlightened Part 1

Being enlightened, the missing ingredient When Peter exclaimed "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God!" in Matthew 16:16, Jesus responded with "flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven." That bit of revelation is what our faith is based upon, and it's called being "enlightened". In the Greek, this word is "photizo". As you can tell, the root "phot" is light so it means to give light or shine. read more...

Seducing spirits

Departing from the faith I Timothy 4:1 says "The Spirit speaks expressly that in the latter times some willdepart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons..." The phrase 'depart from the faith' is key. Lest we misunderstand, departing from the faith does NOT mean rejecting Jesus, it means to depart from sound and balanced faith. Self-absorbed Christian? Part 2

Last week I identified the self-absorbed life using the Rich Young Ruler as the main Biblical example. Today I'll share symptoms and examples of a self-absorbed Christian life, then conclude the series next week. Outwardly the Rich Young Ruler was the model believer in the God of Israel: He had kept all the commandments since a boy, and being in pre-cross times was careful to observe the holidays and make sacrifices for any sins he committed, and read more...

Self-absorbed Christian? Part 1

Outwardly perfect By all appearances he was the perfect believer; honest in business, the perfect son, faithful in all things relating to God, yet he knew something was missing. Like many zealous young people (he was in his early 20's) he poured his energy into work and God. He followed the prosperity teaching, believing if you are prospering in business then God's blessing is upon you; yet still he was hollow inside and couldn't figure out why, for he was doing read more...
